Round 2 promises blockbuster match-ups in the State League competition as clubs look to cement early momentum in the new season. See the match-by-match preview below:

WOMEN’S STATE LEAGUE

Cottesloe TC vs Dalkeith TC

Venue: Cottesloe TC
Time: Saturday, 1pm

Preview:
Cottesloe return home eager to bounce back after a tough Round 1. Their youthful line-up, led by strong singles hitters, will relish the grass and home-court advantage. Dalkeith, meanwhile, showed glimpses of form last week and will rely on captain Lauren Nikoloski’s steadiness and doubles nous to pressure Cottesloe’s rhythm.

Key Battle:
Cottesloe’s top seed vs Dalkeith’s counterpunching No. 1 – expect long rallies and breaks of serve to decide the tone. If Cottesloe can keep their doubles pairing composed under pressure, they could claim a vital home win. Dalkeith’s experience makes them dangerous if the tie goes the distance.

Royal Kings Park TC vs UWA TC

Venue: Royal Kings Park TC
Time: Saturday, 1pm

Preview:
Royal Kings Park will look to make a statement at home after a competitive opening round. Their depth and experience at the top end give them an edge, but UWA’s side features emerging talent keen to prove themselves early in the season. The student club’s enthusiasm and fitness could unsettle the hosts if matches go long.

Key Battle:
Doubles could again be decisive. If UWA can force third-set match tiebreaks, momentum might swing their way.

Bye – Hensman Park

MEN’S STATE LEAGUE

Mt Lawley TC vs Cottesloe TC

Venue: Mt Lawley TC

Time: Friday, 6pm

Preview:
A feature clash between two of the league’s traditional heavyweights. Mt Lawley’s leadership group, spearheaded by Jake Dembo and Casey Ambler, will look to defend home turf. Cottesloe, still adapting to life after losing key veterans, will rely on youthful exuberance and aggressive baseline play to cause an upset.

Key Battle:
Jake Dembo (Mt Lawley) vs Cam Burton (Cottesloe) – two shot-makers who thrive on intensity. DOubles combinations could also be a key. Mt Lawley’s chemistry versus Cottesloe’s unpredictability. Whoever wins the doubles likely takes the tie.

UWA TC vs Royal Kings Park TC

Venue: UWA Sports Park

Time: Friday, 6pm

Preview:
This is a fascinating clash of styles. UWA’s youth and attacking flair contrast with the measured, methodical approach of Royal Kings Park. After falling short in Round 1, UWA will want to make their mark at home, while Royal Kings Park aim to capitalise on early-season form.

Key Battle:
UWA’s top doubles pair vs Royal Kings Park’s veterans – composure under pressure will determine the swing match.

Alexander Park TC vs Claremont TC

Venue: Alexander Park TC
Time: Saturday, 1pm

Preview:
Two evenly matched teams with plenty to prove. Alexander Park boast home advantage and a balanced lineup across all four singles positions, while new entrants Claremont bring power and fresh energy after an impressive debut. The clash of seasoned campaigners and new recruits makes this the “must-watch” tie of Round 2.

Key Battle:
Alexander Park’s consistency vs Claremont’s shot-making firepower. Early singles form will dictate momentum – whoever takes two of the first three singles rubbers should control the tie.
