The preliminary entry lists for the M25 ITF Perth Tennis International #1 have been confirmed with Perth set to see plenty of young Aussie talent compete.
The M25 ITF Perth Tennis International #1, offering USD$30,000 in prizemoney and ATP World ranking points, will feature a 32-player singles main draw and a 16-team doubles draw.
The M25 ITF Perth Tennis International #1 begins this Sunday with qualifying with the final set for Sunday 5th October.
The entry list will be headlined by Queenslander and current world number 351 Dane Sweeny. The 24-year-old Sweeny will come into the tournament as one of the favourites, freshly coming off a singles win at the ITF M25 in Tamworth over the weekend which makes it 4 ITF M25 titles in a row. Sweeny also made his Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open in 2024 and made it to the second round of the Masters 1000 in Shanghai in 2023.
Sweeny’s win in Tamworth came against fellow Aussie Matthew Dellavedova who has also entered for the Perth International. The current world number 433 will go in as a contender after regularly making the quarter finals of recent M25 tournaments in Taipei and Sapporo in Japan.
Victorian Marc Polmans will also line up in the Perth International. Polmans, ranked 534 in the world, has seen success in the past, making the main draw of the Australian Open on four occasions with a personal best 2020 performance making the second round of the main draw. The 28-year-old Polmans has also reached the second round of the French Open and Wimbledon.
All eyes will be on the future of Australian tennis with rising star Cruz Hewitt listed as a qualifier. Cruz is the son of Aussie tennis legend Lleyton Hewitt and has a current Junior ITF singles ranking of 57 in the world. This year, Hewitt made the finals of the J300 Nonthaburi, Thailand, J200 Kuala Lumpur and making the main junior singles rounds of all four Grand Slams this season.
The event promises to be a showcase of WA’s best male players, including local stars like Ethan Cook, Cameron Burton and Ashwin Sharma, and potentially junior talents in Jake Dembo and Sehun Park from the Tennis Australia National Academy.
Ethan Cook who was part of Peppermint Grove’s maiden Men’s State League last season, recently played at the M25 ITF event in Tamworth, making the second round of both tournaments.
Local up and coming West Aussie Jake Dembo has also seen recent success on the junior level, making the final of the J200 Sydney and recently travelled to London to compete in the junior singles. Dembo currently has a Junior ITF ranking of 83.
In an exciting opportunity for Australian male players, the winner of the WA Open Men’s Singles will receive a wildcard entry into the main draw of the Perth Tennis International ITF M25 #1 while the finalist at the WA Open Men’s Singles will receive a wildcard into the qualifying draw.
The Australian Pro Tour represents a series of 30 professional ITF World Tennis Tour and ATP Challenger tournaments held annually, in Australia, over 15 weeks between September and April.
In Australia, the Pro Tour calendar offers a total prize money pool of over US$1.4 million dollars annually providing players with a competitive pathway; all-important earning opportunities, and ATP/WTA Tour world ranking points that facilitate a players livelihood as a professional player. The Calendar offers a range of different level tournaments to accommodate for professional players at different stages on the competitive pathway.
Entry is free for all spectators, and the cafe will be open for each day of the competition of the WA Open and Perth International ITF M25’s.
The final draws will be released this Saturday ahead of Day 1 of Men’s Qualifying Singles on Sunday.
