It’s do or die in the men’s and women’s State League this weekend with teams battling it out for a spot in the final. This weekend’s feature match sees Royal Kings Park host Alexander Park this Saturday in the Women’s State League at 12.30 pm.

This match looks to be a tough one with both teams familiar with the grass courts. The home court advantage could be the key for Royal Kings Park with the home side recording a 3-1 win-loss record at home this season. However, Alexander Park has an impressive record on grass courts this season having won six of eight matches on grass.

This season, both teams have managed a win against each other. In Round 8 Alexander Park were too good for Royal Kings Park, winning 4-2, set up by wins from Shanele Iaconi, Peyton Duckett and Claudia Shearwood. In Round 2, Royal Kings Park were too strong winning 5-1 which saw strong performances from Amelia Tatafu, Amy Findlay and Saanvi Tak.

Royal Kings Park are coming off three consecutive losses after they finished the season with two losses to Applecross and Alexander Park while Alexander Park has found some form in the past few weeks, defeating Dalkeith in the qualifying final and finishing the season strong with wins over Peppermint Grove and Royal Kings Park. The winning team will play either Hensman Park or Peppermint Grove in the final next Saturday.

Key match-up 1: Amy Findlay (RKP) v Peyton Duckett (AP)

This match promises to be an exciting one with both players representing their clubs in the No. 1 position this season. Peyton Duckett has had an impressive season winning six of her nine singles matches as the No. 1 seed. In round 8, Duckett defeated Royal Kings Park’s Jana Ruzic in straight sets. Despite losing to Lauren Nikoloski (Dalkeith) last week in the qualifying final, Duckett had won her four most recent matches.

Amy Findlay has a 3-5 win-loss record this season playing primarily in the No. 1 and 2 positions. Findlay lost last week in three sets to Hensman Park’s Anja Dokic. Findlay does, however, have a great record at home, winning all three of her matches on the grass courts of Royal Kings Park.

Key match-up 2: Amelia Tatafu (RKP) v Sheridan Currie (AP)

Amelia Tatafu has had an up and down season winning three out of six singles matches this season, but she is known to take matches to the end with her last two singles matches going to three sets and recording one win and one loss.

It could be anyone’s match with both Tatafu and Currie both grass court experts with both recording a 3-1 win-loss record on grass courts. Sheridan Currie’s most recent win was last week in the qualifying final against Dalkeith’s Ali Connell winning in a tight three-set match.
