It will be a highly anticipated final round of State League with all matches set to decide where teams end up on the ladder.

The finals format this season features all six teams playing in week one of the finals series. Teams that finish in first and second place will play against each other with the loser to receive a double chance. The two other Qualifying Finals are knockout matches with third place versing sixth place and fourth place versus fifth place. The higher ranked teams will get the home court advantage.

The semi finals see the winner of 1st and 2nd play the lowest ranked winner of the knockout matches and the loser of 1st and 2nd play the highest ranked winner of the knockout matches. The winners of each Semi Final will then meet each other in the Grand Final with the highest ranked team getting home court advantage.

In the men’s, last season’s champions Cottesloe (1st with 100 points) have locked in top spot and can’t be knocked off. In State League, teams can win up to a maximum of 16 points per round with four points for a win and two points for a rubber win.

The men’s match of the round will be Peppermint Grove (2nd with 82 points) and Alexander Park (3rd with 76 points) with the winner guaranteeing second spot and the double chance. Alexander Park could finish as low as fourth place if they get beaten comprehensively and if UWA or Blue Gum Park win convincingly.

Another big match up features UWA (4th with 64 points) hosting Blue Gum Park (5th with 62 points). Just two points separate the two sides with this match up most likely to determine who gets the home court advantage in the qualifying finals a week later unless one of these two teams win comprehensively, and Alexander Park lose their tie against Peppermint Grove by a big margin.

Mt Lawley/Sorrento (6th on 48 points) sit at the bottom of the ladder and can mathematically climb up one spot to fifth but would require results to heavily favour them. The task seems more challenging as they face ladder leaders Cottesloe.

In the women’s, ladder leaders Hensman Park (1st with 110 points) have confirmed top spot and a home final. Hensman Park travels to play Dalkeith (6th with 50 points) this Friday night who sit at the bottom of the ladder, but a win could push them to fifth spot if other results go their way.

Royal Kings Park (2nd with 81 points) play Applecross (4th with 61 points) at Applecross Tennis Club and will look to secure second spot. Royal Kings Park are 15 points clear of third place Peppermint Grove and only need to win one rubber to hold onto second spot and get the double chance. The match will have more on the line for Applecross who need to win to get to third or fourth and get a home final. The size of the win will determine where they finish with every rubber set to have an impact.

Peppermint Grove (3rd with 66 points) and Alexander Park (4th with 64 points) are also in a battle for a home final. A win for either side will confirm third spot and a home final, while a loss could potentially drop them to fifth position and lose the privilege of a home final if Applecross get up over Royal Kings Park.
