The Women’s State League Round 4 Feature Match is set to unfold this Saturday, November 18, 2023, as the Dalkeith Tennis Club plays host to a highly anticipated clash between Dalkeith and Applecross. The action kicks off at 1:00 pm and will be live streamed with commentary from Shane Smedley and Cam Robbins.

Dalkeith enters this match with a challenging start to the season, having faced three consecutive losses in the previous rounds. Last week’s defeat against Royal Kings Park with a scoreline of 5-1 highlighted the absence of key players, including the team captain, Lauren Nikoloski, who was a late withdrawal due to illness. Hayley Burton also missed the previous fixture. In Round 2, Dalkeith put up a strong fight against Peppermint Grove but narrowly lost with a sets score of 8 to 7.

On the opposing side, Applecross is a young and spirited team currently in search of their winning rhythm. The team faced setbacks in the last three rounds, succumbing to Alexander Park (4-2), Hensman Park (4-2), and Peppermint Grove (4-2). Despite the losses, there are positive signs with the Applecross side challenging the best teams in the competition. Applecross is determined to bounce back and showcase their growth and potential.

Key Matchup: Lauren Nikoloski (DTC) vs Ruby Broadbent (ATC):

A pivotal matchup in this fixture will be between Dalkeith’s Lauren Nikoloski and Applecross’s rising star Ruby Broadbent. Nikoloski, who missed the previous week due to illness, is eager to return to the court and improve her 1-1 record. The 2022/23 State League MVP, Nikoloski, boasts a significant victory against Jessie Culley (PGTC) in a thrilling encounter (6-4, 4-6, 10-6).

On the other side, Ruby Broadbent has been a standout performer for Applecross, starting the season with a 2-1 record. Broadbent’s notable wins against Ella Nurkic (Hensman Park) and Peyton Duckett (Alexander Park) underscore her potential to be a game-changer for Applecross. In the 2023 Pizzey Cup tournament, Broadbent had a remarkable run, going 5-1, with her only loss coming in the final round against Eva Lozitskaya (NSW).

As these two talented players face off on the courts of Dalkeith Tennis Club, spectators can expect a high-stakes battle filled with intense rallies, strategic plays, and a showcase of skill and determination. Will Dalkeith bounce back from their recent setbacks, or will Applecross secure a crucial victory and build momentum for the rest of the season? WA Tennis fans won’t want to miss this exciting encounter on Saturday afternoon.
