The State League feature match returns to Friday night this week with the Men’s Round 3 State League matchup between Blue Gum Park Tennis Club (2nd) up against Mt Lawley/Sorrento Tennis Club (5th). The clash will take place under lights on the hard courts of Blue Gum Park Tennis Club.

Blue Gum Park Tennis Club

The team will be a younger side this week with Aaron Addison and Ethan Cook not playing although it won’t hamper the side with Blue Gum Park defeating a strong Peppermint Grove last week in a nail bitter, winning by one set. Jay Fairclough leads the team taking the number one spot for the second consecutive week and will be joined by Brendan Jayaprakash in the number two spot. Brendan Jayaprakash and Rory Marles are in form having both won their singles matches last week and teamed up in the doubles to win their tie.

Mt Lawley/Sorrento Tennis Club

Led by captain Jerome Iaconi, the newly formed team are yet to win a match this season but have been very competitive in both their matches, going down to UWA on the clay courts in a tight 2 rubbers to 4 and losing in round one to Peppermint Grove by just 4 games. The key to their good performances is their depth with Casey Ambler and Michael Faulkner winning both their singles matches last week against UWA.

Key Match Up 1: Jay Fairclough (Blue Gum Park) v Jerome Iaconi (Mt Lawley/Sorrento)

Jay Fairclough is a young 18-year-old right-handed player who won his first-round match up against Daniel Downey 7-6, 6-1 but lost in round 2 as the number one seeded player to Peppermint Grove’s Brandon Walkin 6-0, 6-4. Jerome Iaconi also lost to Peppermint Grove’s Brandon Walkin in straight sets 6-0, 7-6 and is yet to win a singles match so far this season so will be looking to get his first win on the board.

Key Match Up 2: Brendan Jayaprakash (Blue Gum Park) v Casey Ambler (Mt Lawley/Sorrento)

The match-up between Jayaprakash and Ambler should be a good contest with both players are undefeated and yet to lose a singles tie. Brendan Jayaprakash is another young 18-year-old right-handed player who is coming into the match with form having won his first two matches and is yet to drop a set. His form has been rewarded with Brendan starting the season as 4th seed and now playing as the number two seed. Casey Ambler is a 21-year-old right-handed player who comes into the match with form having won his first two matches this season.
