Round 2 of the Tennis West State League saw some warmer weather, nail-biting finishes and a few surprising results.

Men’s: Blue Gum Park defeated Peppermint Grove 3-3 (58 games – 54 games)

Round 2 started with a bang on Friday night with Blue Gum Park edging the home side Peppermint Grove by one set in front of a big home crowd. The tie was locked at 2-2 going into the doubles matches after straight set wins from Brendan Jayaprakash and Rory Marles from Blue Gum Park. Jai Fairclough and Ethan Cook took the first set in the doubles against Peppermint Grove pair Brandon Walkin and Luka Vujacic which proved to be enough even though the pair went down in a third set tiebreaker 11-9.

Men’s: UWA defeated Mt Lawley/Sorrento 4-2

UWA hosted their second Friday night match on the clay courts under lights. UWA’s Hans Busitman won his second consecutive match this season, defeating Mt Lawley/Sorrento captain Jeroma Iaconi 6-4, 7-6. Tim Gray edged out up and coming youngster Jake Dembo in straight sets, but it was Michael Faulker’s come from behind win against Alfonso Calderon which took the result into the doubles matches. Faulkner came from a set down to win the third set tie-breaker 10-3. UWA managed to win both their doubles matches to take the 4-2 win.

Women’s: Royal Kings Park defeated Alexander Park 5-1

The feature match of the round saw Royal Kings Park notch their first win of the season against last year’s runners-up Alexander Park. Peyton Duckett came from a set down to defeat Rhea Makesar 0-6, 7-5, 10-6 but it wasn’t enough to get her side over the line with standout performances from Amy Findlay, Saanvi Tak and Amelia Tatafu who showcased their prowess on the court with unwavering determination and precision.

Women’s: Peppermint Grove defeated Dalkeith 3-3 (8 sets – 7 sets)

Peppermint Grove survived a scare form and impressive Dalkeith outfit winning by one set. Peppermint Grove got off to a good start winning three of the four singles ties but the pair of Nikoloski and Burton took down Culley and Hindmarsh in straight sets resulting in Peppermint Grove in need of at least one set to hold on. Lee and Quinn managed to take the first set off Dalkeith pair Partington and Meg Connell which proved to be enough to get the win.

Women’s: Hensman Park defeated Applecross 4-2

Hensman Park continued their strong start to the season with a solid 4-2 win over Applecross on the grass courts of Applecross. Hensman Park’s Alice Stevens won convincingly in straight sets as well as Applecross’ Ruby Broadbent. Notable performances from Ksenija Vujacic and Anja Dokic in doubles contributed to Hensman Park’s win.

Men’s: Cottesloe defeated Alexander Park 4-2

In another compelling matchup, Cottesloe dominated the courts with an impressive 4-2 victory over Alexander Park at Alexander Park on a warm Saturday afternoon. Tom Hann, Ethan Dunn and Will Hann all posted impressive straight set wins.
