Last Friday, Tennis West held the annual Volunteers Function at East Fremantle Lawn Tennis Club acknowledging the extraordinary contributions and incredible work our volunteers had done over the past year.

Over 130 volunteers along with Tennis West staff and board members and club members attended the function.

Tennis West CEO Brett Patten and Tennis West President Rod Van spoke to the volunteers about the growth in participation and reach throughout the state over the past year and the continued focus on igniting the growth of tennis through local governments, affiliated clubs, and mainstream media to maintain tennis as a tier one sport within the WA sporting landscape.

Guests were also treated with last year’s Tennis West Volunteer Achievement Award Finalist Darryl Downing from Range View Tennis Club participating in a Q&A session with master of ceremonies Cam Robbins.

Tennis in Western Australia has a strong volunteering culture with over 3,000 volunteers with a further 100 volunteering at the United Cup.

This year’s theme for volunteer week was the change makers, acknowledging volunteers as “Change makers who take action to make the world a better place.”

The Change makers turn their passions into purpose and give their energy and time to make a difference in their communities.

The function also fostered an environment conductive to networking and collaboration among the attendees.

Through their unwavering commitment, volunteers embody the spirit of community. Their passion, selflessness and tireless efforts have undoubtedly played a pivotal role in shaping the tennis landscape in Western Australia.

Tennis West would like to thank the East Fremantle Lawn Tennis Club, event partners Showcase Catering, Concept Marketing, Sports Imagery Australia and Perth Audio Visual (PAV) for their ongoing support of the Tennis West Event Series.
