Professional Men’s tennis will return to the State Tennis Centre when play gets underway from Sunday 19 – Wednesday 22 July for the second Perth UTR Pro Tennis Series event.

Grand Slam Doubles Champion and Australian Davis Cup team member, John Peers will headline the field in WA, looking to defend his title after claiming victory in the first UTR Pro Tennis Series event in Perth last week. University of Tennessee college graduate and emerging pro talent, Scott Jones is expected to bring world class tennis to the courts of the State Tennis Centre as he fights for redemption after falling to Peers in last week’s final.

The UTR Pro Tennis Series has featured stops in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth, with players entering using their Universal Tennis Rating (UTR). This offers players an opportunity to compete locally and have their results count globally via the UTR system, along with a share in the $450,000 prizemoney.

John Peers (Sorrento) continues the tournament as a formidable threat, winning 21 professional career titles including the Australian Open Men’s Doubles title in 2017. Having being named in the Australian Davis Cup team since 2016, Peers has appeared in 12 ties, including the most recent qualifying event in Adelaide which landed the Australian squad a spot in the Final, which will now be played in Madrid in 2021.

Peers will be joined by former US College students, Scott Jones (Piara Waters), Scott Webster (Swanbourne), and Thomas Hann (Wembley Downs), who have returned to Perth following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The UTR Pro Tennis Series provides players with the opportunity to compete for prize money following the months-long suspension of the international tours due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is a key opportunity for players to return to tournament play. Event organisers have worked closely with government authorities to ensure strict physical distancing protocols are in place, along with additional hygiene and safety precautions.
