Hosted by the North Beach Tennis Club, the 2019 North Beach Junior Classic has been named as the Most Outstanding Australian Ranking Tournament at the Newcombe Medal Awards held at the Crown Palladium Ballroom in Melbourne.

The Australian Tennis Awards night recognises players, coaches, clubs, communities, volunteers and officials for their service to the sport with the 2019 event marking the 10th instalment of what has become tennis’ night of nights.

The Most Outstanding Australian Ranking Tournament award recognised the tournaments complete package of on-and-off-court activities, player amenities and positive tournament atmosphere.

Attracting more than 230 entries across singles and doubles events for players ranging from 10s to 16/U, the North Beach Junior Classic was held on the 13-16 April 2019, and was one of the club’s most successful tournaments to date.

Engaging a professional tournament director ensured that the clubs head coach and committee members were available to support players and parents throughout the event.

Adding to the professionalism of the event, the club committed to a dedicated tournament planning office, manicured grass courts, provisions for extra spectator seating, children’s activities, Easter egg hunts, and canteen and bar facilities, to ensure a well-received event by all players, spectators, committee members and officials involved.

Club Coach Philipp Lamprecht who played a key role in the tournaments success says the award is a wonderful recognition of the clubs commitment and achievement in providing a first class Australian Ranking tournament.

“I knew North Beach Tennis Club was capable of hosting a great tournament but this award certainly exceeded all our expectations,”

“The Junior Classic is a ranking tournament and therefore competitive but it should also be fun for the kids taking part and that’s why we wanted it to run as smooth as possible by engaging a professional tournament planner,”

“We made sure the kids had heaps of fun off court with table tennis and Easter egg hunts,”

“Running a canteen and bar on top of everything else required a massive team effort from the head coach, club committee and all volunteers,”

“I think this award is recognition of this fantastic team effort and an award for all of us. If you take out the ‘team’ in teamwork, it’s just work and who wants that?,” Lamprecht said.
