WA tennis clubs who have chosen to install the Book a Court system are experiencing significant upturns in court usage.  By the end of 2019 there will be 20 fully operational Book a Court venues in Western Australia.  Clubs using Book a Court range from large clubs such as Cottesloe Tennis Club, to smaller venues such as Range View Tennis Club.

During April and May 2019, Book a Court venues in WA collectively reported 866 individuals making 7,345 bookings, generating (collectively) $17,611 in income.  The philosophy behind Book a Court is court accessibility and the removal of barriers to participation.

Tennis Australia have made a significant financial commitment to supporting clubs seeking to install the Book a Court technology.  Up until this point, support for Book a Court installations through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries has not been widely sought.  The Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund (Small Grants) is a prospective area of support that clubs could explore to a greater extent.  Through this funding program the State Government assists projects with a cost between $7,500 and $300,000 (minimum grant of $2,500).

In order to assist clubs with an application for funds from the Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund, Tennis West have drafted a pro-forma application.  Our experiences with the benefits of Book a Court and understanding of the expectations of the funding body will ensure that this draft application will greatly assist clubs.

Any clubs wishing to make an application for support from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries can start by contacting Graeme Hall Manager Places to Play and Government Relations at Tennis West.  Contact details are [email protected] or (08)6462 8304.
