The Perth May Platinum Swing took place at the State Tennis Centre from May 10 -19, and attracted many interstate entrants in both the Men’s and Women’s AMT events.

The swing commenced with the prestigious WA Open, featuring a strong line up of local players looking to etch their names alongside the likes of Margaret Court, Evonne Goolagong, Ken Rosewall, Frank Sedgeman, Harry Hopman and Lleyton Hewitt, who have all stamped their claim on the prestigious silverware.

In the Men’s WA Open final, top seed Edward Bourchier faced off against Vuk Velickovic, in a hard fought match that saw Bourchier continue his strong form and prevail 6-2, 6-4.

On the Women’s side, it was a hotly contested Final between the two top Victorians, with number one seed Alana Parnaby taking on second seed Masa Jovanovic. The first set finished in a tie-breaker that was ultimately claimed by Parnaby. However Jovanovic staged a thrilling comeback, taking the second and third sets to win the match 6-7, 6-2, 6-3.

The Men’s Doubles Final featured fourth seeds, Jai Corbett and Ryan Laubser squaring off against second seeded locals Brenton Bacon and Edward Bourchier. In a tightly contested final, it was the WA men who ultimately won the match 6-3, 7-5.

It was a top of the table clash in the Women’s Doubles final with top seeded pairing Masa Jovanovic and Mirand Poile facing second seeds Zara Brankovic and Alana Parnaby. Jovanovic and Poile claimed the match in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-3.

The second tournament of the swing was the 2019 Perth Platinum AMT held from 15-19 May, with many of the players from the WA Open continuing to play in back-to-back tournaments.

In a repeat of the Men’s Final of the WA Open, Edward Bourchier prevailed over Vuk Velickovic. The Women’s Final also featured the same two finalists, however this time it was Alana Parnaby prevailing in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 over Masa Jovanovic.

The Men’s Doubles Final featured the top two seeds, with interstate competitors Erik Holt-Crossman and Zac Osborne, taking on locals, and WA Open Doubles Champions, Brenton Bacon and Edward Bourchier, who managed to claim back to back wins, taking the Final match 6-2, 6-2.

The Women’s Doubles Finals featured the unseeded pairing of Jessica Fowler from Tasmania, who teamed up with local player Madelaine Muller-Hughes, who had returned from College in America. The pair took on top seeds Masa Jovanovic and Alana Parnaby, who proved too strong for their rivals, claiming the match 6-3, 6-4.

Congratulations to all interstate and local players who competed at the Perth Platinum Swing, and thank you for making both events such a success with a record amount of entrants.
