29 October 2018 | Tennis West

Tennis West supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, recently delivered the Tennis West Regional Roadshow in the Upper Great Southern region from the 17th-19th October 2018.

The aim of the roadshow was to engage the local community and regional kids in particular between the ages of 9 and 16, to tennis through activations that encourage participation both in tennis and in leading a physically active life. The program also provided a link to the local Tennis West affiliated club, which provides a safe environment for continued activity. In addition to targeted children and youth, we wanted to engage with and provide further opportunity to adult players, club administrators, local sport, recreation, local government stakeholders, and the local community.

Tennis West recruited elite athlete and professional tennis player Jessica Moore to be a part of the road show. Jessica grew up in Williams, which is located in the Upper Great Southern region, and was thrilled to be involved in the delivery of this program. Jessica reached her career high doubles ranking of 68 in the world a few days before the roadshow began which added extra excitement and hype around Jessica being on the road with us.

The Roadshow saw Jessica Moore and the Tennis West team visit 6 schools in the Upper Great Southern region, delivering  tennis in primary and secondary schools sessions to over 370 students. The program also consisted of a junior coaching clinic, a Foundation Coaching course and a Fitbit Cardio Tennis session at host venue Narrogin Tennis Club. The final stop of the Roadshow was a VIP breakfast held at the Williams Woolshed, which featured special guest Jessica Moore. Tennis West CEO Michael Roberts and Tennis West Participation Manager Brooke Koenig attended the breakfast along with Jenifer Collins (DLGSC Wheatbelt Manager) zone committee members, juniors players from the zone and Jessica Moore’s family. The breakfast ended with a Q and A from Jessica, which was well received by the audience.

Tennis West would like to thank the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, for your ongoing support of tennis in regional Western Australia and the Tennis West Regional Roadshow.
