East Fremantle Tennis Club has officially unveiled their new resurfaced courts as part of a recent upgrade to their facilities.

The East Fremantle venue is the first club in Western Australia to install the Laykold Gel surface. The new playing surface provides acrylic courts with a heightened level of cushioning for players that may be of interest to clubs who are looking to transition from grass courts in the future.

“The courts were 15 years old so they did need to be upgraded” said Janine Ahern, East Fremantle Tennis Club Manager.

“We were offered a $46,000 grant from the East Fremantle Council as well as a $6,000 grant from Tennis Australia as part of the National Court Rebate.”

The four resurfaced courts were officially opened by East Fremantle Mayor, Jim O’Neill, on Sunday, 29 April 2018 at a champagne breakfast.

“Everyone who attended the opening was really happy with them and really positive after trialling the new surface” said Janine.

“We’re hoping that the new courts will attract more players down to the club.”
