Royal Kings Park Tennis Club has claimed the 2017-18 Women’s State League Title defeating Blue Gum Park Tennis Club 4-8-48 to 0-0-19.

Royal Kings Park TC looked confident heading into the final, having finished the season on top of the table with 13 wins from 14 matches and securing a home final. Lead by Captain and State League veteran Astrid Kanther, Royal Kings Park delivered a one-sided showdown against Blue Gum Park TC winning in a clean sweep taking all four singles matches in straight sets.

Bojana Busic, RKPTC’s number one player remained undefeated this season and wasn’t about to drop a match. Instead, Busic flew through the first set 6-0 against Blue Gum Park’s Katy O’Shea. O’Shea, the 2016-17 season MVP, looked to fight back but couldn’t overcome Busic and lost the second set 6-4.

Having lost the 2016-17 final last year to Cottesloe, Blue Gum Park were keen to atone for last seasons loss. However despite their best efforts, the blows continued to come with RKPTC’s Nina Catovic‘s 6-1 6-2 win over Blue Gum Captain Sheridan Currie, Brittany Sheed defeating Marissa Gianotti 6-3 6-4 and Janelle Cuthbertson getting the better of  Hannah Innes 6-3 6-2.

With no doubles matches required, Grand Slam legend Margaret Court presented the trophy to Royal Kings Park Tennis Club who celebrated the momentous win, having not won a State League Title since the 1992-93 season.
