In line with Tennis Australia’s education program, Tennis West facilitated a tennis workshop for Edith Cowan University (ECU) pre-service teachers with the aim to up-skill teachers in tennis education.

With many teachers thinking that tennis is too difficult or technical to teach to young children, it was a great opportunity to breakdown these barriers and prove just how easy it can be.

A child’s first opportunity in tennis often occurs in a Primary School environment, therefore it is crucial that our teachers are up-skilled in the delivery of tennis development, to create memorable experience’s that encourage continued tennis participation.

Dr Joseph Scott, Lecturer in Health and Physical Education at ECU, said that “after a 90 minute session many of our students then felt the confidence to be able to teach tennis in schools!”

Tennis Australia is pleased to partner with Tertiary Education Institutes and are excited to explore further opportunities in the education sector. We look forward to the contribution this partnership will make to the growth of tennis participation across Western Australia.
