Progress continues to be made on the Tennis West Strategic Facilities Plan.  The consultant team from INSIDEedge have made a second visit to Perth to engage with clubs and local government authorities.  In what was a very full week the team were also able to visit a number of tennis venues through the south east corridor of the metropolitan area.

The consultant team conducted four workshops, on the evenings of Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 June there was an opportunity for clubs to have their say about the future facility requirements of tennis.  A session with regional officers from the Department of Sport and Recreation was invaluable in determining the tennis venue requirements of regional towns.  The use of video conferencing technology meant that the project team could engage with officers from every region throughout WA.  Interestingly there a great variations in the profile of tennis throughout the state.  In the southern and eastern regions there is a strong participation culture, this is far less prevalent in the more northern regions.

On Friday Tennis West were able to host 30 local government authorities at the State Tennis Centre.  This session with one of our major stakeholders importantly provided significant insight as to the plans of local government.  Local Government is becoming extremely efficient at long term financial planning and asset management, it is therefore imperative that tennis as a sport engages proactively with all Councils to ensure that value for money is delivered.  Tennis clubs are integral parts of the community and are well respected by local government, it is imperative to ensure that tennis clubs do not become a financial burden on their local Council.

Following this latest round of engagement INSIDEedge will produce a project bulletin for circulation to all clubs.  If there are any clubs that would like more information about the project or were not able to attend the sessions but would like to contribute please contact Graeme Hall Manager Places to Play (08)6462 8304 or [email protected].

The Strategic Facilities Plan is supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation and Tennis Australia (National Court Rebate Scheme).  Tennis West thanks these two organizations of their ongoing support.
