FED CUP SQUAD TRAINING CAMP AND FED CUP TIE VS SERBIA

Maddison Inglis attended the Australian Fed Cup Squad Training Camp at the National Tennis Centre in Melbourne from April 10-13, 2017. Athletes born between 1997 – 1999 that are seen as potential future Fed Cup team members were invited to the camp. A number of current players and past Fed Cup players also attended the camp. The camp had intensive on court sessions, physical activities, team building events and a team dinner.

 

National Academy Head Coach Andrew Roberts was an integral part of the Australian Fed Cup team that defeated Serbia 4-0  April 22 & 23, 2017 in Zrenjanin. The victory places Australia back into the World Group. Straight sets wins to Daria Gavrilova and the doubles pairing of Ash Barty and Casey Dellacqua made it a 4-0 clean sweep after Gavrilova and Barty won their respective singles rubbers on the opening day. Team captain Alicia Molik was happy with the team contributions and excited for the World Group play-offs.

 

VICTORIAN ITF’S

The Gallipoli Youth Cup and Nicholas Lynch Real Estate Victorian Junior International were held over April in Victoria. WA had a strong contingent of players represented with Tristan Schoolkate, Will Hann, Christian Harding, Connor Enslin, Tara Gilich, Skye Royall, Madelaine Muller-Hughes, Lexie Weir and Luna Jovanovic. Lexie Weir qualified and won a round in the main draw of the second ITF. Will Hann qualified for the first ITF and won a main draw round in the second ITF. Tristan Schoolkate was a singles quarter finalist of the second ITF. The ITF Junior Circuit is the premier level for worldwide competition among under-18 junior tennis players. The Victorian ITF’s were held on clay and were a great learning and developmental opportunity for the WA players.

 

AUSTRALIAN JUNIOR DAVIS CUP CAMP BRISBANE

Tristan Schoolkate was selected for the Junior Davis Cup Camp – Brisbane from April 3-9, 2017. The top 6 male players in Australia from the 2001 birth year were selected. The camp ran alongside the Davis Cup Tie vrs The United States. The junior players attended the official Davis Cup dinner and draw ceremony. The camp was a great experience for Tristan and reward for his hard work and recent great results at the New Zealand ITF’s earlier in the year.

 

GRASSCOURT NATIONALS – BERRI, SA

State Coach Len Cannell and Talent Development Manager Damien Ward provided coach support for the 14 WA athlete’s that took part in the 12/U & 14/U Australian Grasscourt Championships from April 8-13 held in Berri, South Australia. In the 12/U singles competition Taylah Preston, Kent Yamazaki and Samuel English were quarter finalists. Lauren Nikoloski made an impressive semi final of the U/14 singles competition. The WA players had a great time and developed their game against the best in the country. It was great to see so many coaches and parents from WA make the trip to give valuable support to the athletes.

 

SUPER 10’S

The Super 10 Competition is under way in WA at the State Tennis Centre with the Challenge round and first round completed. The Super 10s is an exciting competition for boys and girls who are born between 2006 to 2008. The competition forms part of the National 10/U ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Program. Talent Development Manager Damien Ward runs the WA competition and is excited by the level of play from the boys and girls so far. There are five rounds of competition which are held at the State Tennis Centre with rounds to be completed on Saturdays from May 13, June 10, June 17 and the final round on June 24. The boys teams are managed by John Thorpe, John Roberts, Mitch Pleydell and Cameron Fenner. The girls teams are managed by Marissa Gianotti, Charlotte Connon, Bojana Bobusic and Andrea Cooper.
