Former Applecross High School student and National Academy – Perth Scholarship Holder Astra Sharma has won the deciding match to clinch the women’s NCAA Division 1 National tennis title for Vanderbilt University (VU). Rallying back from losing the first set Sharma used her big serve and pin-point accurate return of serves to capture the historic win over defending champions UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles). The national team title is an amazing accomplishment, however it was not the only trophy Sharma took home. In her first year playing for Vanderbilt University Sharma also brings home multiple individual awards;

  • 2015 All-American (Doubles)
  • 2015 NCAA Tournament MVP
  • 2015 SEC (conference) Tournament MVP
  • First Team All-SEC (All-Conference)
  • SEC (Conference) All Freshman Team

Congratulations to Sharman and Vanderbilt University on winning their first ever Women’s National Tennis Championship. We look forward to following Sharman and Vanderbilt University’s success both on the court and in the classroom in the years to come.
