Hopman Final 2015

Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska and Jerzy Janowicz have claimed their first Hopman Cup title on Sunday defeating Serena Williams and John Isner of the United States 2-1.

 

More than 95,742 fans visited Perth Arena for the 27th annual staging of the event which featured nine top 20 players, including four top ten players.

 

After seven days of world-class tennis in Perth, Western Australia, this is the final word.

 

On-court action

  • World No.5 Agnieszka Radwanska and world No.43 Jerzy Janowicz defeated world No.1 Serena Williams and world No.18 John Isner to win Poland’s first Hopman Cup crown.  Poland finished runners-up in 2014 in their debut year at the event.
  • In 2015 13 ties, 39 matches and 87 sets were played during 4 to 10 January.
  • Eight countries were represented including Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Great Britain, Italy, Poland and the United States.
  • Nine current top 20 players competed in the event: Andy Murray, John Isner, Fabio Fognini, Serena Williams, Agnieszka Radwanska, Eugenie Bouchard, Lucie Safarova, Flavia Pennetta, Alize Cornet.
  • Four current top ten players: Serena Williams, Agnieszka Radwanska, Eugenie Bouchard and Andy Murray.

  • Jerzy Janowicz (POL) clocked the fastest men’s serve of the tournament at 232 km/h.
  • Serena Williams (USA) recorded the fastest women’s serve at 200 km/h.

  • The world’s best have had the chance to see parts of Perth, Western Australia over the last week:
  • Serena Williams met Sunshine, Perth’s famous koala in Kings Park, Eugenie Bouchard took in the view at Mends St Jetty in South Perth and was seen surfing at Trigg Beach while Alize Cornet and Benoit Paire swam at Cottesloe Beach. Fabio Fognini and Flavia Pennetta of Team Italy visited Rottnest Island and Lucie Safarova and Adam Pavlasek of Team Czech enjoyed a feast of Western Australia seafood at Kailis Bros.

 

Attendance

  • 95,742 attended Hopman Cup 2015, the second largest attendance in the event’s history.
  • Each session in 2015 saw two team supporter bays where supporters purchased seats with other fellow country supporters to cheer on their favourite team.
  • 50,000 country hand waver flags were handed out during Hopman Cup 2015.
  • Famous faces in the crowd included tennis legends Margaret Court and Neale Fraser, Australian Fed Cup captain Alicia Molik, Olympic swimmer Eamon Sullivan, 2014 Brownlow medallist Matt Priddis and captain of West Coast Eagles Shannon Hurn, Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh, Fremantle Docker’s Matt Pavlich, Nat Fyfe, Lee Spur and Jack Hannath, The Bachelor Blake Garvey and his partner Louise Pillidge, Chloe James, My Kitchen Rules, Carole and Russell Bramston, House Rules, Sally Yamamoto and Tyson Smith, Amazing Race and Annaleis Martin, The Big Adventure.
  • This year’s Hopman Cup Ball saw special guest Guy Sebastian

 

  Broadcast and media

  • More than 70 print, radio and broadcast media provided extensive media coverage of the event to media outlets around Australia and worldwide.
  • Hopman Cup 2015 was broadcast to more than 170 countries by over 20 different broadcast partners.
  • In Europe, broadcasters included Polsat in Poland, Digi Sport in the Czech Republic, Ma Chaine Sport in French speaking countries, British Eurosport in the UK and Super Tennis in Italy, Roger Sportsnet covered it in Canada, NTV Plus in Russia and the CIS, Dubai Sports Channel and SuperSport in the Middle East and Africa respectively. TyC Sports in Latin America are among the list of other broadcast partners. In South East Asia, coverage was provided by Fox Sports, whilst in India and the sub-continent was Sony Six.

 

Digital and social media

  • As of 9 January @hopmancup on Twitter grew by more than 25 per cent, generating 3 million impressions during the event period.
  • Hopman Cup – Australian Open Series Facebook page grew by 40 per cent and featured on-court action, colour and exclusive behind the scenes content.
  • The Hopman Cup YouTube channel generated hundreds of thousands of views with a clip of Serena Williams ordering a coffee going viral, with over 793,408 views alone as of 10 January.

 

A total of

  • 1128 Wilson tennis balls were used throughout the Hopman Cup while 163 racquets were restrung for players.
  • 1760 towels including 510 personalised embroided player towels were used during the event.
  • 66 ballkids aged 12-15 made up the Hopman Cup 2015 squad.
  • Matches were officiated by 32 linespeople, four chair umpires and one referee from around Australia and the world.
  • Players were transported by a fleet of 25 Volkswagen cars during the event, with 32 volunteer drivers completing 774 trips between 5:15 am and midnight each day.
  • Fans enjoyed 9510 ice creams, 6768 sandwiches and 4600 Mount Franklin bottles of water while watching the tennis at Perth Arena.

 

Community tennis

  • SpongeBob SquarePants and Squidward, along with their Nick Jr. friends Dora the Explorer and Diego headlined Hopman Cup Kids Tennis Day presented by Nickelodeon.
  • Young budding tennis players from Kununurra Tennis Club in the Kimberley region, Western Australia had the chance to meet Great Britain’s Heather Watson.
  • World No.6 Andy Murray played Tennis Hot Shots with youngsters from Bayswater Tennis Club on Perth Arena’s practice court.
  • Volkswagen Speed Challenge saw the fan’s fastest serve at 162 km/h.

 

Hopman Cup 2015 is the official mixed team competition of the ITF and is proudly supported locally by the State Government, through Tourism WA. The event will take place at Perth Arena from Sunday 4 to Saturday 10 January 2015.

 

Hopman Cup is part of the Emirates Australian Open Series which also includes the Brisbane International presented by Suncorp, Apia International Sydney, Hobart International and the World Tennis Challenge (Adelaide).
