Regional Talent Development Athletes in Brisbane

Tennis West, in partnership with the Department of Sport and Recreation, travelled to Queensland with 8 regional athletes from across Western Australia (WA) for an 11 day tour, 29th June – 9th July 2014. All athletes competed in two Australian Ranking Tournaments; 2014 Solinco Series – Queensland Junior Claycourt Championships & 2014 Rod Laver Lead In presented by Tennis & Gear Online.

The Regional Talent Development (RTD) Program is a scholarship in which regional athletes are able to apply for, if they meet a set criteria. Four of the eight successful athletes received a full scholarship which included funding to support their tennis development (equipment, coaching, travel, tournament fees etc) as well as a subsidised tour interstate. Full scholarship holders were; Michael Frayne (Bunbury), Madelaine Muller-Hughes (Australind), Kayla Myburgh (Bunbury) and Kenneth Prete (Bunbury). A further four athletes were invited to Queensland who just missed out on the full scholarship. These athletes were; Jarrod Capararo (Albany), Mitchell Fraser (Busselton), Joshua Tait (Bunbury) and Colten Way (Esperance). Team Managers were Paul Oldfield and Brooke Koenig from Tennis West.

All athletes, ranging from 12 to 16 years of age, played in both singles and doubles in their relevant age range.
