Casey Dellacqua’s run at the BNP Paribas Open has come to an end after she fell 6-1 6-3 to Anabel Medina Garrigues in the first round.

Dellacqua had breezed through the qualifying draw to win both her matches in straight sets, but found the going a lot tougher in the main draw once she came up against the 62nd-ranked Spaniard.

Despite her short stature, Medina Garrigues was simply dominant on serve, smacking six aces, and incredibly winning more than 80 per cent of points on both her first and second serves.

She never faced a break point in the match yet created 17 on Dellacqua’s serve, breaking serve four times on her way to victory in one hour and 12 minutes.

Medina Garrigues next faces No.27 Sorana Cirstea, while Dellacqua will remain in the Californian desert to contest the doubles event with Kimiko Date-Krumm, the duo having recently won the WTA title together in Pattaya, Thailand.
