22 August 2025 | Tennis Victoria

We are proud to crown our Community Champion for August 2025, the very deserving Brodie Meehan from Kerang Tennis Club. In 2021, Brodie was delivering a Community Play workshop at the Kerang Lawn Tennis Club. Still a junior player at the time, he was eager to get involved in supporting younger players at the club. Since then, Brodie has become a driving force behind junior tennis in Kerang, helping to foster both the development and enjoyment of the game for local kids.

As Brodie’s own tennis journey has progressed, so too has his coaching knowledge. He has completed numerous Tennis Victoria-led coaching workshops and coach education programs and is passionate about continuing his development, particularly through the Level 1 coaching course delivered regionally.

Brodie’s commitment doesn’t stop at the club level. He’s expanded his efforts to nearby schools, introducing students to tennis and giving more young people in the region access to the sport.

Regional tennis faces unique challenges, particularly when it comes to coaching resources. While regional clubs make up a large portion of Victoria’s tennis community, only 31% currently have a coach, compared to significantly higher rates in metropolitan areas. This makes the work of passionate individuals like Brodie even more critical.

Brodie is exactly the kind of person the Sustainable Regional Tennis project seeks to support. Backed by the Victorian Government and Tennis Australia, this initiative provides funding, training and resources to strengthen regional tennis programs across the state. By supporting and empowering local champions like Brodie, the project is building a more connected and sustainable future for regional tennis. Earlier this year, Brodie was also recognised at the Kerang Lawn Tennis Club’s Easter Tournament, where he was named Club Person of the Year for 2024-2025, a reflection of his dedication and the impact he’s had on the club and its community.

From his beginnings as a Hot Shots participant to becoming a volunteer deliverer and leader of the next generation, Brodie’s is a passionate, committed and community-minded leader of tennis in regional Victoria.

Congratulations Brodie on being named this months Community Champion!
