We’re proud to shine a spotlight on Russell Atkins from Rye Tennis Club as our Community Champion for December 2025, recognising his exceptional dedication and impact on the local tennis community in Victoria. 

Over the last few years, Russell has invested an enormous amount of time and effort advocating for funding for the club and working closely with council and other stakeholders to bring a new hitting wall and seating area to life at Rye Tennis Club. His persistence has paid off, with the space having its official on 19 October during a special club event.

Russell was also recently honoured with the Faye McCormack Award for Administrator of the Year at the Rye Sports and Social Club Awards, an acknowledgement that reflects his significant contribution.

Thanks to his hard work, an underutilised area of the club has been transformed into a vibrant space featuring a fantastic hitting wall, bright blue seating, lawn and storage, along with new seating installed on all courts to support the many tournaments held at the venue throughout the year.

Russell’s vision and commitment to enhancing the club’s facilities for members and the Rye community truly embody what it means to be a community champion!
