Aussies in action: US Open Day 9
Ash Barty and Sam Stosur continue their doubles campaigns at the US Open while four Australian juniors also take to the courts at Flushing Meadows.
Australian stars Ash Barty and Sam Stosur play back-to-back on Louis Armstrong Stadium on Tuesday, bidding for semifinal places in doubles events at the US Open.
Barty, combining with Victoria Azarenka, will play No.1 seeds Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic in the women’s doubles quarterfinals, before Stosur and American partner Rajeev Ram — seeded third — take on Demi Schuurs and Henri Kontinen in the mixed doubles quarters.
Barty is the defending US Open women’s doubles champion; last year she teamed with Coco Vandeweghe to beat Babos and Mladenovic in a thrilling final.
Elsewhere at Flushing Meadows, four Australian juniors will feature on the Day 9 schedule.
Rinky Hijikata plays his second-round singles match before combining in doubles with West Australian Tristan Schoolkate, who is also through to the second round of the boys’ singles event.
Compatriots Annerly Poulos and Stefan Storch will also play first-round doubles matches.
