Sam Stosur and Sam Groth have advanced to the semifinals of the Australian Open mixed doubles tournament after a commanding win over Martina Hingis and Leander Paes.

The all-Aussie pairing of Stosur and Groth beat the 2015 champions 6-3 6-2, thumping 29 winners to nine to win in just 55 minutes.

Making the victory all the more sweet was the fact it came in front of home fans on Australia Day.

“To be in the semis now is an awesome feeling and it’s been lots of fun playing with Sam,” Stosur said.

“I thought that was probably our best match so far, so hopefully we can keep improving each day.”

Added Groth: “It’s awesome. Always nice to get a win at home in front of home fans, and to do it on Australia Day makes it a little bit more special.

“They’re a quality mixed doubles pair – I think they’ve won everything that can be won. We were playing pretty good today.”

Next up Stosur and Groth will take on second seeds Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig; the Indian-Croatian duo arrived in the semis after beating Gabriela Dabrowski and Rohan Bopanna 12-10 in a match tiebreak.

Stosur is gunning for her fourth Grand Slam mixed doubles title.

She won twice at Wimbledon – in 2014 with Nenad Zimonjic and 2008 with Bob Bryan – while her first came way back in 2005 at the Australian Open with compatriot Scott Draper.
