Aussie duo John Millman and Jordan Thompson have lost in the opening round of the Chengdu Open in China.

Millman fell in three sets to eighth seed Paolo Lorenzi of Italy.

The Queenslander stormed back to win the second set only to fade in the third, going down 6-4 3-6 6-1 in just under two hours.

Thompson found former top 15 star Kevin Anderson too strong, losing 6-2 6-4.

Nick Kyrgios is the only Australian remaining at the inaugural edition of the ATP 250 hardcourt event.

Kyrgios will face Anderson in the second round after receiving a first-round bye as the tournament’s second seed.
