Sam Stosur and Daria Gavrilova have moved through to the quarterfinals of the Coupe Rogers after an upset win over eighth seeds Karolina Pliskova and Barbora Strycova in doubles in Montreal.

Playing together for the first time at a tournament, Stosur and Gavrilova sealed a 6-3 3-6 [10-5] win over the Czech team in 71 minutes.

The victory came a day after their come-from-behind win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Chia-Jung Chuang in the first round.

The Aussie duo next face No.4 seeds Elena Vesnina and Ekaterina Makarova in the last eight.

Stosur and Gavrilova’s form is a great sign ahead of Rio, where they will team up to represent Australia in doubles.
