Unseeded talents surprise in 16/u champs
Giant killers Benard Nkomba, Nathanael Consalvo and Renee BcBryde have reached the 16/u Australian Championships semis while top seed Aidan Vaughan was stunned in the 12/u event.

The unseeded Benard Nkomba and Nathanael Consalvo have advanced to the semifinals of the boys’ 16/u Australian Championships at Melbourne Park.
Nkomba ousted No.4 seed Adam Walton in three sets while Consalvo was a 7-6(5) 6-3 winner over No.5 seed Will Maher.
In the semifinals, they will face respectively No.3 seed Moerani Bouzige and Mayez Elrich, the sixth seed.

It was a similar story in the 16/u girls’ draw; unseeded giant killer Renee McBryde continued her great run, moving into the semis with a 6-3 6-4 win over Kaitlin Staines.
The win followed on from her straight-sets first-round upset of tournament second seed Aleksa Cveticanin.
Joining McBryde in the semifinals are seeds Michaela Haet (No.1), Alexandra Bozovic (No.5) and Violet Apisah (No.7).

The boys’ 12/u championships almost featured the top four seeds filling their allotted semifinal placing.
Yet while second seed Philip Sekulic, third seed Cooper White and fourth seed Edward Vo all advanced to the final four, No.1 seed Aidan Vaughan fell 7-5 6-3 to Lin Nan Xun.

Top seed in the girls’ draw, Lara Walker, avoided Vaughan’s fate, seeing off No.10 seed Lauren Nikoloski 7-6(4) 6-2 to takes her place in the semis.
Next up for Walker will be Joy Andreou, a 6-2 6-1 winner over Subi Surenraj.
The other semifinal will feature second seed Anastasia Berezov and No.9 seed Maggie Pearce.
