Wollongong NSW, Australia, 17 November 2015 | David Packman

Fifth seed Maverick Banes heads the Australian contingent leading into the Tennis Wollongong International #2 this week.

It is the last event of the 2015 Australian Pro Tour calendar.

The 23-year-old Queenslander Banes faces wildcard Scott Puodziunas in the opening round before potentially meeting American top seed Connor Smith in the quarterfinals.

Smith, currently ranked world No.240, will open his campaign against another Queenslander in Steven De Waard.

Other seeded Australians competing this week include Victorians Jacob Grills (No.6) and Dayne Kelly (No.8).

Grills plays qualifier Blake Ellis on Tuesday with Jose Statham likely standing in his way at the quarterfinal stage. The Kiwi third seed brings some good form into the event after his semifinal appearance last week.

Meanwhile, Kelly meets wildcard Socrates Tsoronis in his opening match, with American fourth seed Marcos Giron a possible quarterfinal opponent.

Due to the late withdrawal of New Zealander Finn Tearney, Wollongong local Adam O’Shannessy enters the main draw as a lucky loser.

O’Shannessy will play his first round match on Wednesday against last week’s Wollongong #1 finalist and seventh seed, German Sebastian Fanselow.

Another local favourite, Blake Mott, finds himself up against Thailand’s Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul on Tuesday with the winner to face either Fanselow or O’Shannessy en route to a potential quarterfinal showdown with second seeded Czech Robin Stanek.
