Kiki Bertens has put in an impressive display to brush aside a game Casey Dellacqua in the first of the reverse singles rubbers of the Netherlands v Australia Fed Cup World Group Play-off.

Bertens proved too solid throughout the 6-2 6-3 win, putting the Dutch up 2-1 in the tie.

Jarmila Gajdosova will take to the court against Arantxa Rus in the second of the reverse singles rubbers in a bid to keep Australia’s World Group hopes alive.

Dellacqua tried everything in her power to contend with Bertens, varying her spins, trajectories and angles, and varying adeptly between attacking and defensive play.

Yet nothing she did seemed to bother the Dutchwoman, who took her career Fed Cup singles record to a sparkling 11-1.

Bertens served bigger, moved better on the clay and had nine less errors than Dellacqua, all while playing with a controlled aggression that she sustained throughout the one hour and 10 minute encounter.

She opened up a 4-0 lead to begin the match, and although Dellacqua eventually got on the board, the first set had passed her by.

The Aussie had chances in the second set when she capitalised on a brief patch of sloppy play from Bertens to break serve and level at 3-3.

Yet she immediately surrendered serve in the following game, and would not win another for the match.
