Bernard Tomic’s run at the ATP event in Acapulco has come to an end at the hands of No.2 seed David Ferrer.

Tomic fought hard before ultimately succumbing 6-4 3-6 6-1 in one hour and 40 minutes.

The Spaniard came into Acapulco in great form having won last week’s Rio Open, and has continued his winning ways, setting up a semifinal with qualifier Ryan Harrison.

Tomic managed eight ages and was just as successful on his first serve as Ferrer; however, the Spaniard owned the contest when it came to effectiveness on his second serve, winning 72 per cent of those points to Tomic’s 37.

Despite the loss, Tomic has begun 2015 in solid form; his run to the last eight in Acapulco was his fifth quarterfinal of the season.
