Melbourne VIC, Australia, 4 December 2014 | Australian Tennis Magazine

Each day we’ll be featuring a player who is one to watch throughout the December Showdown and into the Australian summer. Today it’s West Australian Maddison Inglis, who returns to defend her 18/u Australian Championships title.

The quiet, unassuming Inglis has a calm exterior on the court, masking an intense competitor who can step it up and crunch her groundstrokes.

The 18-and-under national champion in December 2013 represented Australia in Junior Fed Cup this year and won matches at Pro Tour events in her home state at Perth and Margaret River, reaching the quarterfinals at the latter.

Currently with a WTA ranking 809th, Inglis is aiming to contest junior Grand Slam events in 2015.

She is the highest-ranked player in the 18/u Australian Championships girls’ field this year.
