Sara Errani has ended the winning run of Aussie Anastasia Rodionova in the second round of the US Open on Wednesday.

In a match that finished late into the evening despite being the last of the day session matches on Court 5, the 13th seed ousted Rodionova, a qualifier, 6-4 7-6(2).

Rodionova, who was attempting to win her fifth straight match at Flushing Meadows, looked down and out when she trailed by a set and a double break.

She rallied to level the second set scores, but eventually found the Italian too strong.

Errani goes on to face Venus Williams in the third round.
