Australia has narrowly missed out on third place at the World Junior Tennis Finals after a closely-fought tie against Romania in Prostejov, Czech Republic.
Jeanette Lin fell in straight sets to consistent baseliner Mihaela Lorena Marculescu, before Destanee Aiava levelled the tie with a commanding victory over Selma Stefania Cadar, conceding just one game.
In the deciding doubles rubber, Aiava and Gabriela Ruffels fell in straight sets to Cadar and Andreea Prisacariu.

Russia was the ultimate winner of the girls’ competition, defeating the second seeded Ukraine 2-0.
Ukraine had earlier beaten Australia in the semifinals.
