Australia has finished in top spot at the Junior Fed Cup Asia/Oceania qualifying competition in Malaysia at the weekend, securing its place in September’s finals.
The Australian team of Priscilla Hon, Kimberly Birrell and Maddison Inglis finished No.1 after defeating China 2-0 in Saturday’s final; Birrell beat Ma Shu Yue 6-3 6-2 before Hon, celebrating her 16th birthday, sealed victory with a 7-6(4) 6-1 win over Wu Shuang Zheng.
Australia earlier recorded 2-1 wins over India and Japan in the respective quarterfinal and semifinal stages of the play-offs, after having gone undefeated in round robin play with victories over Singapore, Hong Kong and Uzbekistan.

Sixteen teams were competing for the four available spots at the Junior Fed Cup finals in San Luis Potosi in Mexico on 23-28 September 2014; joining Australia from the Asia/Oceania zone are China, Japan and Thailand.
