Casey Dellacqua has recovered from a set and a break down to score an impressive victory over No.19 seed Kirsten Flipkens at the BNP Paribas Open on Friday.

The Australian clinched a 1-6 6-3 6-1 victory over the Belgian to move into the third round of the US$12 million event at Indian Wells in the Californian desert.

It is the second time in less than two months that Dellacqua has beaten the reigning Wimbledon semifinalist; she also ousted Flipkens in the second round at Australian Open 2014.

Dellacqua, a qualifier managed to wrest control of the match in the fourth game of the second set, when she broke serve to move ahead 3-1.

It was an advantage she maintained for the remainder of the set, and when she’d levelled scores, it was a psychological blow.

The West Australian raced to a 5-0 in the final set, and completed victory two games later to progress to the final 32.

There, she’ll meet 13th seed Roberta Vinci – a player in a similar mould to the one-handed Belgian all-courter – and will be going for her fifth straight victory at the combined WTA/ATP event.

Dellacqua’s best result at Indian Wells came back in 2008, when she made it through to the fourth round.
