Bernard Tomic has been handed a heavy defeat at the ATP Barcelona Open on Wednesday, going down in 48 minutes to Juan Monaco of Argentina.

The No.7 seed brushed aside the Aussie 6-0 6-2 to reach the third round of the ATP 500 event, where he will next face 10th seed Jeremy Chardy.

Monaco went a perfect five-from-five on break points, and saved the only break point he faced in the match.

Tomic’s service troubles were also evident in his second serve winning percentage, with the 20-year-old able to claim just 29 per cent of points behind his second delivery.

The Aussie No.1 will next head to Munich for the ATP 250 BMW Open to continue his French Open build up.
