Australia’s John Peers has teamed with Jamie Murray to defeat Bob and Mike Bryan in the final of the US Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston.

The unseeded duo shocked the top-seeded American pair in three sets, 1-6 7-6(3) [12-10].

After a slow start, Murray and Peers fought back to level the match at a set apiece and send the final into a deciding match tiebreak.

“We did well to come back … slowly but surely, we started to play good tennis,” said Murray. “They were well on top [but] we hung in there.”

The win was the first together for Peers and Murray in just their sixth tournament as a duo. But the win was all the more sweet for Peers as it’s his first at ATP level.

“We started playing after Australia … it takes time, it doesn’t happen overnight, you’ve got to keep working hard.”
