Bernard Tomic has ousted fifth seed Viktor Troicki of Serbia in the first round of the Japan Open in Tokyo.

The Queensland teenager triumphed in two tiebreak sets 7-6(6) 7-1(1) to advance to the second round of the ATP World Tour 500 event.

In the second round, Tomic faces Japanese wildcard Tatsuma Ito, who beat qualifier Dudi Sela in his first round encounter.

If successful, the Australian young gun will face a quarterfinal clash with either American Mardy Fish or Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis.
