Second-seeded Australian Jarmila Gajdosova advanced to the second round of the Guangzhou Open by beating China’s Han Xinyun 6-2 6-1 on Tuesday.

Top-seeded Maria Kirilenko also advanced, beating Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine 6-4 6-2.

But fifth-seeded Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia lost to Tetiana Luzhanska of Ukraine 6-3 4-6 7-6(4) and sixth-seeded Alberta Brianti of Italy was beaten by Zheng Jie of China 7-6(3) 6-4.
