Australia has defeated Great Britain to finish third in the junior teams event at the 2011 World Team Cup in Pretoria, South Africa.

Keegan Oh-Chee (Eastwood, NSW), Henry de Cure (Glenelg North, SA) and Stephan Rochecouste (Glenfield, NSW) made up the victorious side.

Australia had a shaky start to their bronze medal campaign after de Cure experienced a 4-6 3-6 loss to Dermot Bailey (GBR).

However, Oh-Chee put Australia on to the scoreboard, defeating Briton Josh Steels 6-1 6-3.

Doubles outfit de Cure and Oh-Chee sealed Australia’s podium position with a comfortable 6-4 6-1 win over Bailey and Steels.

“I feel really happy proud of our bronze medal win,” de Cure said.  “I played really well this tournament and only had one match where I didn’t play my best.

“Whilst in South African we also did a lot of off court activity too. We went on a safari and had dinner on Anzac Day with the Australian High Commissioner to South Africa, Her Excellency Ms Ann Harrap, we all had a lot of fun and it was a great team environment,” de Cure added.

In other results The Netherlands placed second behind Spain, who were crowned the 2011 Junior World Team Cup champions.

The Australian senior team finished in 12th position in the Men’s World Group 1 division and was represented by Ben Weekes (Strathfield, NSW), Richard Engles (Kogarah, NSW) and Michael Dobbie (Thornbury, Vic).
