Burnie defending champion Bernard Tomic will face Melbourne’s Chris Guccione in an all-Australian semifinal at the Burnie International.

Tomic held off fellow Queenslander Ben Mitchell, who pushed the top five Australian all the way. Tomic eventually prevailed in three sets, 6-3 3-6 6-4.

Guccione, meanwhile, upset second seed Paolo Lorenzi to add his name to the list of semifinalists. Injury curtailed the big-serving leftie’s 2010 season but his comeback appears to be gaining momentum.

In the other men’s semi, eighth seed Tatsuma Ito will play Flavio Cipolla.

Also today, Australian Kristina Wlodarczak will take on Saisai Zheng in the women’s semis while Aussie duo Olivia Rogowska and Sally Peers will play Natsumi Hamamura and Erika Takao in the women’s doubles final.
