Sam Stosur has beaten Ash Barty in an all-Aussie second round at the Miami Open. Stosur, the No.14 seed, beat Wildcard Barty 64 64 in an hour 20 minutes.

On a warm, muggy day in Miami, the match stayed on serve for much of the opening set, until Stosur took advantage of a solitary break point to take the opener.

The second was a similarly tight affair. Barty had a number of chances to break, but Stosur was able to hold on. The fourteenth seed seized the advantage when she converted her single break point, and was able to hold on to record an important win.

For Barty, it was another positive comeback tournament. The current world No.91 recorded a confidence-boosting victory over Genie Bouchard in the opening round.

Stosur will face in-form Chinese player Peng Shuai in the third round.
