Tennis West is excited to announce Applecross Senior High School as the first recipient of the new School of the Term award, which celebrates schools delivering outstanding tennis programs, activities, and initiatives that make a lasting impact on students while building sustainable tennis communities.
Applecross Senior High School has gone above and beyond in providing opportunities for students to develop their coaching skills and give back to the game. Recently, the school hosted a Tennis Australia Participation Course, delivered by Peak Perform’s Ian Ketteringham and Matt Wigham.

The session focused on Hot Shots Tennis activities and fundamental coaching methodologies, using modified equipment to engage younger players. Ian and Matt provided excellent examples of representative learning while encouraging students to teach tennis in its true form.
This initiative was made possible through Applecross Senior High School’s proactive approach in reaching out to Tennis Australia Coach Relationship and Education Manager, Nick Jacques, to bring the predominantly online Community Coaching Course to life in a face-to-face setting. By doing so, the school empowered students to gain valuable coaching experience and pass on their knowledge to the next generation of players.
In addition to their coaching development efforts, Applecross Senior High School has shown strong community spirit by raising funds to support their tennis program. The school recently hosted a Bunnings sausage sizzle fundraiser as well as another at their athletics carnival, showcasing the commitment of staff, students, and families in strengthening their tennis offering.

As the School of the Term winner, Applecross Senior High School will receive a double pass to a United Cup – Perth session of choice (excluding finals) and will be featured in the Tennis West Schools in Tennis Newsletter.
Congratulations to Applecross Senior High School for their leadership, initiative, and dedication to tennis both on and off the court!
