As part of Tennis West’s continued commitment to fostering a fair, respectful, sportsmanlike and inclusive playing environment, we are pleased to share with you the Junior 2025/26 Summer League Officiating Pilot Plan.
This initiative has been developed in response to a rise in poor on-court Junior player behaviour and spectator interference and aims to support clubs in creating a safer and more enjoyable environment for players, parents, and spectators.
Importantly, this direction is backed by community feedback where 92% of respondents to our recent Junior League survey agreed that the presence of trained league officials at all Junior League fixtures would help in reducing incidents of negative sideline and/or on-court behaviour.
The pilot introduces a two-pronged officiating model involving Match Supervisors and newly introduced League Assistants, with clubs and parents taking shared responsibility for maintaining a high standard of conduct and match integrity.
If you are interested in becoming a Match Supervisor and/or League Assistant please speak to your club.
Key points include:
- Mandatory participation for all clubs entering junior teams in the 2025/26 season.
- Required online training modules for Match Supervisors and League Assistants.
- A structured education workshop.
- Clearly defined expectations around spectator behaviour, on-court supervision, dispute resolution, and integrity reporting.
As we head into the season, please note the following minimum venue requirements:
- 4 or fewer courts: 1 Match Supervisor
- 5–8 courts: 1 Match Supervisor and 1 League Assistant
- 9 or more courts: 1 Match Supervisor and 2 League Assistants
These minimums are designed to help ensure strong support and supervision across all Junior League venues.
Congratulations to those who completed a Match Supervisor and League Assistant Workshop in July.
It was fantastic to see such strong engagement from coaches, parents and club volunteers across the four sessions.
We encourage all clubs to begin identifying suitable personnel for these roles and to prepare for the upcoming training sessions. The requirement is One Match Supervisor and Two League Assistants at each venue per week. Therefore, it is recommended that each club nominate Two Match Supervisors and Two or More League Assistants for training.
If your club has not yet participated, or you have additional personnel who need to attend, we will be running more workshops on the following dates:
