9 December 2022 | Tennis West

Tennis Australia has a zero-tolerance approach to any form of child abuse and is committed to ensuring the sport of tennis is a safe and friendly environment for children and young people. It is imperative that children and young people who access our activities, programs, events or services feel safe and supported.

For clubs to be known as welcoming, safe and inclusive community communities of activity and fun is important for members, parents, children and the broader community in general. Our new look posters and messaging from the workshops promotes messaging that Child Safeguarding is a priority and will continue to be a priority well into the future.

The Tennis West Child Safeguarding Poster competition saw some very creative entries and highlights the ongoing commitment to keeping the future of tennis safe by our affiliate clubs.

Megan Allen, Tennis West Integrity Lead, had the challenging task of selecting a creative and inspiring message from all entries received. In what was a tough job, Megan managed to narrow it down to the final three clubs:

Onslow Park Tennis Club

Reabold Tennis Club

Tenterden Tennis Club

The final winner, securing a $500 Bunnings voucher for their club, was…

Tenterden Tennis Club

Tenterden Tennis Club outlined a holistic commitment to child safety that will be underpinned in the day-to-day running of their club. Tenterden has committed to imbed child safeguarding practices in their policies and procedures and showed a sound understanding of the importance of this topic.

“Tenterden Tennis Club will ensure that child safety is embedded in our organisation’s culture, reflected in our policies and procedures, and understood and practiced at all levels of our club. We commit to making sure that everyone involved in our club, including coaches, club committee, volunteers, parents and participants, understand the important responsibilities they have in relation to child safety.

Our commitment extends beyond creating an environment that minimises risk or danger. We are committed to building an environment that is both child-safe and child-friendly. Together we can provide an environment in which children feel respected, valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.”

Congratulations to the committee of Tenterden Tennis Club on prioritising keeping our children and the future of tennis safe!
