Round 2 of Premier League took us to MCC Glen Iris Valley Tennis Club. After having been denied the opportunity to host last year due to bad weather, the club were exceptional hosts, with the community gathering to rally behind the men’s and women’s teams and creating an incredible atmosphere.

The women’s division was a sea of battles, with no team managing to win all three of their rubbers. Royal South Yarra continued their winning start to the season, besting Grace Park 2-1 despite a fantastic performance from Zuzana Zlochova who backed up her win last night with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Erica Layton.

Kooyong stay just one step behind on the ladder. Belinda Woolcock took charge of her match against Alana Parnaby, while Eliza Dunbar and Zoe Llewellyn came back from a set down to claim their doubles match. Monique Barry was the stand-out for the home team, winning her singles match against young gun Gabriella Villegas 7-5, 4-6, 10-8.

Bundoora RMIT are now also on the board after Tamara Bajagic and Jelena Cvijanovic both comfortably won their singles matches against the girls from Harkaway.

In the Men’s Division, Alex Bolt made the home fans cheer, winning his singles match against Kooyong’s Jeremy Taylor 6-1, 6-4. Chancai Sookton-Eng sealed the win for MCC in the second singles match, while the doubles pair went down to David Bidmeade and David Hough.

Dayne Kelly and Corey Gaal both achieved impressive wins, claiming their clashes 6-3, 7-5 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively. While Hume couldn’t get it done in the doubles, the dominance in the singles gave them the 2-1 win over Beaumaris.

Royal South Yarra couldn’t make amends for their opening round, even with a valiant Matthew Woerndle claiming his singles match. RMIT Bundoora were too good, claiming the doubles and remaining singles matches to set themselves up perfectly for their home round tomorrow.
