4 November 2022 | Tennis Victoria

The 2022 edition of Premier League officially began with the Men’s competition held at Hume Tennis and Community Centre and the Women’s held at Bundoora Tennis Club.

Split across two venues, the players and spectators enjoyed an evening of uninterrupted sunshine and great tennis!

At Bundoora, the home side got off to the perfect start, with Elicia Kim and Christina Dodaj winning a tight tussle over MCC Glen Iris’ Isabella Crossman and Scarlett Dattoli. MCC bounced back however, thanks to a dominant win from Alana Parnaby and a well-fought win from Monique Barry.

Royal South Yarra and Kooyong also emerged victorious in the doubles, continuing their good form from 2021. Erica Layton and Pias Wongteanchai made it a perfect rubber for RSY, winning their singles matches against Harkaway in straight sets.

Kooyong’s Gabriella Villegas made a statement with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Miranda Poile, while Zuzana Zlochova proved too good in her clash against Belinda Woolcock, claiming Grace Park’s only rubber.

Over at Hume, Beaumaris led by impressive straight sets singles wins from Alex Babanine and Omar Fields defeated Royal South Yarra 3-0 and Kooyong brought the heat against RMIT Bundoora with Jacob Grills, David Hough and doubles pair David Bidmeade and Jeremy Taylor all winning in straight sets.

In the closest of the three contests, MCC won 2-1 against Hume after Aaron Addison defeated Talic Zaharije 6-0, 6-1.

Round 2 continues tomorrow at MCC Glen Iris Valley hosting both the Women’s and Men’s Divisions.
