We are very proud to recognise two of Moorabbin & District Junior Tennis Association’s (MDJTA) most dedicated volunteers, Lyn and Colin Price, for their outstanding commitment to grassroots tennis with High Commended Service Awards.

Between them, Lyn and Colin have dedicated nearly 70 years of service to junior tennis in Victoria. Their combined contributions have shaped the lives of thousands of young players across the region.

Lyn Price has been a driving force behind the MDJTA since 2001, serving as Secretary for 24 years, and holding the dual roles of Secretary and Record Secretary since 2005. Her administrative experience extends even further, having previously served as Secretary of Kings Park Tennis Club from 1987 to 1994. In addition, Lyn has managed a women’s night tennis competition for 25 years, providing a welcoming space for local women to stay active and socially connected through tennis.

Lyn played a pivotal role in guiding MDJTA through its incorporation process and the implementation of TROLS, website for various tennis associations in suburban Melbourne. She continues to serve the association in her dual secretarial roles and has also been a Tournament Manager, alongside her husband Colin, for the IMG Discovery Open and other key junior tournaments.

Her contribution spans all levels of tennis administration, from club to tournament level, and her efforts in developing and supporting women’s social tennis have made a lasting impact.

Colin Price’s involvement with MDJTA began in 1980, joining the committee before taking on the role of Vice-President in 1989. Since 1996, he has served as President, a remarkable 28-year leadership tenure. In total, Colin has committed 44 years to the MDJTA and grassroots tennis.

Colin was the club coach at Kings Park Tennis Club for 40 years, commencing in 1976, mentoring players from beginners through to elite junior competitors. His influence extended beyond coaching, as he helped modernise competition structures within the association. This included introducing more flexible match start times to accommodate player growth, and ensuring singles matches were available to players in lower sections, helping foster individual development from a young age.

In recognition of their contribution, MDJTA recently introduced a new club performance award named in honour of Colin and Lyn, a fitting tribute to their tireless work in junior development.

Colin’s achievements have been recognised across the broader tennis community. He received the George Gilmour Memorial Trophy for Club Coach of the Year in 2003, was inducted into the TCAV Hall of Fame in 2009, and was made a Life Member of Kings Park Tennis Club in 2005. He continues to serve MDJTA as President and is currently assisting the Lauriston Lawn Tennis Club.

Congratulations, Colin and Lyn, and thank you for your incredible and unwavering dedication to the association and the wider tennis community!
